A car flew off the 101 Freeway near the Shoup Avenue exit in Woodland Hills and crashed into the roof at a strip mall shortly after 3 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18, the California Highway Patrol said.

Officers found no one in the car and were still looking for the driver on Sunday evening, said CHP spokesperson Matt Gutierrez. The crash is considered a hit-and-run, he added.

Orit Ben Yaakav, the owner of one of the businesses in the La Plaza strip mall, said that it looked like “a bomb had been dropped.”

She received a call on Sunday notifying her that there had been some damage to her business, Libbe Bar – Colon Hydrotherapy Center, but she did not expect it to be so severe.

“It’s destroyed a whole treatment room,” Ben Yaakav said. “Literally everything is crushed. The whole clinic is full of dust.”

Ben Yaakav said that her entire ceiling is missing and about half of her equipment and space was damaged.

“I’m just grateful no one was there,” she said. “If I had been treating a patient in that room, we would both be dead.”

Authorities have not said if any other businesses in the strip mall were affected.

Officers found the car lodged into the building and had it towed. There were no injuries and no road closures or immediate hazards, the CHP said.

About 50 feet of a fence along the freeway was damaged.
