After severe rain, severe winds, and a heat wave, it was time for San Fernando Valley residents to enjoy the sunny days and get outside.
The mild weather outside brought out families and even some ducks at the 80-acre Lake Balboa/Anthony C. Beilenson Park in Van Nuys on Thursday.
It surprises some guests when they see people fishing, but the park’s 27-acre lake is home to largemouth bass, channel catfish, carp, and blue tilapia.
The park also has a fly fishing area, a 1.3 miles jogging path, barbecue pits, a bicycle path, a children’s play area, a launch ramp, pedal boats and picnic tables.
In 1988, the park was named for then-Congressman Anthony C. Beilenson, who secured federal funds and oversaw the development of the park.
