The 83rd annual Golden Globes returned to the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Sunday, January 11, to kick off the 2026 award season. Comedian Nikki Glaser returned to host the award show after her hosting performance was widely well-received last year.
Viewers took to Threads and other social media platforms to share their thoughts on the annual award show. From a Disney Channel reunion between Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez, to Amy Poehler winning the inaugural award for Best Podcast, every joke that landed as well as every additional bit that didnât, here are the top moments from the night, according to Threads users.
The comedian returned to host the annual award show that highlights both film and television. From the moment she took to the stage, with Taylor Swiftâs âStyleâ as her walkout song to pump up the Swifties, it was clear Glaser was in her element.
Her opening monologue was filled with plenty of jokes that both attendees and viewers at home were chatting about and one moment in particular stood out. âAnd the award for most editing goes to CBS News. Yes, CBS News, Americaâs newest place to see BS news,â said Glaser while hosting the award show that airs on CBS.
âTHE GLOBES ARE ON CBS AND NIKKI IS CALLING OUT CBS,â said @lucyontheground.
It was clear that Glaser had won over the audience early in the roughly three-and-a-half-hour show. âThis is the most Iâve laughed out loud in recent memory. Nikki Glaser is a star. She was made for this,â shared @jennygawlick.
Each time Glaser took the stage, it seemed not only to keep the show going but also to revive the audience. Another standout moment was when she combined âKPop Demon Huntersâ with âMarty Supremeâ for an award-show musical moment that might not have been on the same elite level as when former hosts Neil Patrick Harris and James Corden incorporated a musical number, but was still enjoyed by many. âNikki Glaser is so camp not this musical number!â said @courtneyrevolution.
Viewers also appreciated the clever way it was cut short by Fran Drescher, using her power as the former SAG-AFTRA honcho to end the musical number. âSweetie, you know I love you, but you have to stop singing, your voice is so annoying,â said Drescher.
âThat means so much coming from you,â replied Glaser, pointing out the irony as Drescherâs signature laugh from âThe Nannyâ is known for its cringe-inducing effect.
@cbs I guess K-Pong Demon Hunters is a no-go? #GoldenGlobes

The introduction of the best podcast category could be seen as a sign of the times, as awards shows seek new ways to increase viewership.
Ahead of the category, Glaser partook in a prefilmed bit, recreating Nicole Kidmanâs quotable AMC ad that plays before the theaterâs films, but with the comedian returning to her car to listen to a podcast instead. Or, as she jokes, attempt to listen: it can be a struggle to get to the actual podcast because of the commercials that play throughout each episode.

âI donât know about award shows, but when they get it right, it makes sense,â says Amy Poehler after winning Best Podcast at the 2026 Golden Globes. Some viewers at home joked about their relief that the inaugural category wasnât won by a man, âThank you, Amy for saving us from more men picking up microphones when they really shouldnât,â wrote @cami.twomey.
Itâs the show of the moment, and its stars Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie are the talk of the town. So itâs safe to say viewers at home were delighted to find out that, despite the show not being nominated for a 2026 Golden Globe, Williams and Storrie would still be at the award show as presenters.
Every time the camera cut to the two, viewers at home were giddy with excitement. But the moment fans couldnât get enough of, well, besides the cheeky preshow interviews on the red carpet, was when the two took the stage. Storrie appeared nervous, in a moment that could win reaction meme of the year, as it dawned on him that anyone in the audience who had seen the show had seen the two in some NSFW moments.
âLook at the pure joy and happiness on their faces!â said @tasteof_reality. âMay the industry never change that!â
âConnor Storrie and Hudson Williams are absolute stars and born for this,â said @emilycschwartz.
âThe cheers in the audience for Connor Storrie + Hudson Williams were not loud enough for me,â said @feistyfrank. âI wouldâve been hooting, hollering, having a seizure, etc. Kings!!!!â
Prior to the show, it was announced that the Best Original Score award would still be given out during the Golden Globes, however the moment wouldnât be televised.
The award went to composer Ludwig GĂśransson from the film âSinners.â The award not being televised drew criticism online, with many on social media feeling like âSinnersâ deserved more kudos than Hollywood was giving the film. It also didnât sit right with many to eliminate the category from the aired portion of the show, and instead to televise the best new podcast category.
âThe fact that the Golden Globes added and televised a new âPodcastâ category, and decided to give Best Original Score category off-air to SINNERS is truly just AWFUL! â said @patrickadougall. âMusic is QUINTESSENTIAL to film!â
âI thought I was crazy and missed it.â said @convicted_cinephile. âSuch a joke considering the pointless categories they gave airtime to.â
Dustin Anglin also weighed in, posting, âThe most Golden Globes thing in the world is to nominate Ryan Coogler and Michael B Jordan for Sinners, and then give Sinnersâ only individual award to the white Swedish guy (though seriously huge congrats to GĂśransson, incredibly well deserved.)
The two stars have a lot in common: they were both Disney Channel icons of the early 2000s, they both live a double life as pop stars and actors, they both dated Nick Jonas, and, of course, they were both 2026 Golden Globe nominees. Itâs safe to say anyone who grew up watching âHannah Montanaâ and âWizards of Waverly Placeâ while also listening to âSend it Onâ nonstop was geeking out over the Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus reunion during the award show. Even more notable was the fact that Jonas was also in attendance at the Beverly Hilton Hotel with his wife, actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas.
âHas a more important photo ever been taken?â asked @gibsonoma.
It was one of the biggest movies of the year, in part because of the catchy tunes that households across the country couldnât stop singing. One could say it was a golden opportunity when the filmâs hit single âGoldenâ won for Best Original Song in a Motion Picture. After opening up about not making it as a K-pop artist, the singer-songwriter Ejae delivered an acceptance speech that resonated with fans at home. âI can confidently say rejection is redirection⌠and itâs never too late to shine like you were born to be,â she said.
âOne of the most genuine and heartfelt acceptance speeches Iâve ever heard, brb while I go cry and replay âGolden,ââ said @thesarahsem.
Additionally, the film won Best Animated Motion Picture.
Â
In years past, when an award recipient was making their way onto the stage to deliver their speech, viewers at home typically heard an announcerâs voiceover, giving a brief rundown of the recipient to fill the time.
However, this year, entertainment journalists Marc Malkin, Senior Culture & Events Editor at Variety, and Entertainment Tonight host Kevin Frazier were brought in to offer commentary. Some viewers felt the back-and-forth between the two reporters was a little too sportsy and didnât fit the nightâs vibe, while others appreciated the change of pace.
âAre these the guys doing the commentary because what is going on?â said @justme.rod with a photo of Statler and Waldorf, the grumpy characters from the Muppets, perhaps best known for heckling the main cast.
Viewers couldnât help but notice that there was a little extra pep in their step for the presenters and award recipients, in part because of the walkout music. The conclusion online? Someone had handed the aux cord to a millennial this year. âI had a hunch the walk-up music was being directed by a millennial,â wrote @an_gelicapickles. âBut âReturn of the Mackâ as Macaulay Culkin walked on stage confirmed it.â
âYou just know whoever is running that Golden Globes playlist has a retinol routine by now,â said @teewatterss.
Seth Rogen joked about his Golden Globes win during his speech: âThis is so weird⌠We just pretended to do this, and now itâs happening. I thought the only way I would get to hold one is to create a whole show to give myself a fake one,â said Seth Rogen. While fans of âThe Studioâ were excited for the meta moment, they were left disappointed that the opportunity wasnât seized to thank Sal Sapertsein.
âWhy Seth Rogen refuses to thank Sal Saperstein in any of his acceptance speeches is beyond me,â said @bravobreakingnews.
âI need to understand why nobody from The Studio has thanked Sal Saperstein this awards season run!!!â said @kirbiejohnson.
âIâm so happy for Seth Rogan. And Iâm also so happy for ME who gets to take the night off from screaming THE BEAR IS NOT A COMEDY,â said @lucyontheground.
